Catch-up bookkeeping in Charleston, SC
Behind on the books is the most common state a small business walks in with. Every cleanup I do ends the same way: reconciled accounts, accurate statements, and a file your CPA can use. Here is what the work actually looks like.
What a cleanup involves
A cleanup starts with your bank and card statements. I import every transaction into QuickBooks Online, categorize each one, and reconcile every account against the statements so the books match the bank to the penny. Duplicates get removed, transfers get matched, and old errors get corrected instead of buried. At the end, your balance sheet and profit and loss reflect what actually happened.
Why books fall behind
Books fall behind for ordinary reasons. The owner does the books at night and the nights fill up. A bookkeeper leaves. A new card gets opened and never connected. QuickBooks keeps pulling transactions in whether anyone looks or not, so the pile grows quietly until tax season forces the question. None of that means the business is in trouble. It means the books need a defined block of work.
What a flat quote means
Cleanup is priced as one flat number, in writing, before any work starts. I base it on how many months need rebuilding and how many accounts are involved. If the work turns out harder than I expected, that is my problem, not yours. The quote does not change.
The handoff to your CPA
When the cleanup is done, your CPA gets a clean set of books: reconciled accounts, a tidy chart of accounts, and statements they can file from. I talk to your CPA directly if anything needs explaining, so you are not the messenger between us.
How long it takes
Most cleanups finish in two to four weeks. A single year with two or three accounts usually sits at the short end. Several years or many accounts take longer, and I give you the expected finish date along with the quote. Once the cleanup is done, most owners move straight into monthly service so the pile never comes back.
